[99m]Tc-DTPA-bis-methionine (also known as 99mTc-DTPA-bis(Met) or MDM) is a research-stage single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) radiopharmaceutical developed at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in Delhi, India. The agent consists of two methionine molecules covalently conjugated to diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) and radiolabeled with technetium-99m. It targets the L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT-1), which is highly overexpressed in various tumor types to support rapid cell proliferation. [99m]Tc-DTPA-bis-methionine is formulated as a single-vial lyophilized kit for convenient in-house radiolabeling and is being clinically evaluated for the scintigraphic detection of methionine-dependent tumors, including breast cancer and glioma, as well as for differentiating tumor recurrence from radiation necrosis.
